CORONET AT UMA TRADE PROMOTION WORKSHOP

Kampala, 26th November 2013: As one of the leading integrated credit support enterprises, Coronet Group Ltd. was invited to a consultative workshop by Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) to share views with other members in the manufacturing and trade sector on how best Ugandan companies can benefit from the on-going Trademark East Africa Facilitation Project.

Among the issues raised as major problems affecting the different sectors was the need for improved infrastructure, unfair trade practices, business competition and lack of standards in all sectors and standardization of intermediate products. Absence of UMA’s direct participation in the clearance of goods at the Uganda Revenue Authority was also raised as a major hindrance affecting the process flow in trade.

Members suggested that in consultation with URA, UMA should request placement of some of their employees at the headquarters of the Uganda Revenue Authority to help manufacturers achieve quicker solutions to this problem.

The absence of some key service providers in Uganda’s trade sector such as Uganda National Bureau of Standards, Private Sector Foundation and many others, did not go un- noticed, it was suggested that they should be invited to attend these workshops so as to address the issues raised in regard to their sectors directly and contribute to the same. UMA in this regard was asked to encourage these service providers to participate in such events and to organize another follow up meeting to discuss the outcome of the workshop.
